Riverdale Mill, International Paper’s facility in Selma, and ArtsRevive are partnering to present the second annual art competition Celebrating the Art of Paper. In honor of the Mill, this juried competition will use only paper as its medium, works on paper, printmaking, photography, or collages with paper. Entry is open to artists throughout Alabama. DEADLINE for submission of work is August 31, 2017. Artists will be notified by Sept. 11 and work will be received Sept. 22-23 at ArtsRevive.
Riverdale Mill has been a strong partner in Selma and Dallas County since opening in 1966. They believe, as ArtsRevive does, that the arts build community. They are proud sponsors of this new competition and look forward to continuing partnerships with groups and organizations in our community and to the exciting pieces entered in Celebrating the Art of Paper. All work submitted must be on or made with paper. All works on paper or collages constructed predominantly with paper will be accepted. Other than the use of paper, there are no thematic requirements.
Toska Courbron is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama. She moved around the country working as an accountant for private industry (12 years) and an Audit Manager for the Navy and Air Force (32 plus years). During this time, she was a member of several art organizations and won numerous awards along the way. Toska is a member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, Montgomery Art Guild, Selma Art Guild, Alabama Plein Air Artists, Alabama Pastel Society, and served on the Watercolor Society of Alabama, Board of Directors, and former Secretary of the Elmore County Art Guild, Alabama. Since retiring, she is devoting her time and effort into developing her own style, working with oil, watercolor, and pastel. She leads one to three day workshops that can focus on techniques of medium or on the principals of art. She is a strong supporter of local arts organizations. She lives and paints in Wetumpka, AL.
Entrants must be current or former residents of Alabama. All work must be original and all reference material should be the work of the artist. No paintings made from other painters’ or photographers’ work should be submitted for competition. All work submitted must be on or made with paper. All works on paper or collages constructed predominantly with paper will be accepted. A committee will choose work for the show from jpeg images submitted by the artist. After the selection process all photos and CD’s will be returned to the artist if accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Participants will be notified as to work accepted for the show, delivery dates, time and place, as well as other details pertaining to show participation by email. Please be sure to include a legible email address on the entry form. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $35.00 per artist for two submissions. Two additional pieces may be submitted for an additional $5 each. Cash prizes will be awarded including $500 for Best in Show.
